📚🎓 Disability Guide to College Planning

5:30 PM - 6:30 PM
Kent Public Library
Program Room
This presentation aims to give high school students and their parents a basic overview of the transition process from high school to post-secondary education. It is from my previous experience working as the Director of a disability support program that many students with disabilities come to college unprepared for the challenges - both academic and social-emotional. My goal is to help start this conversation for some or continue to reinforce essential talking points for preparation for others.
By the end of my presentation, parents and their children will have more information and the motivation to continue communicating with relevant educational staff for college preparation.

Registration is recommended.

About the presenter - Dustin Horvath, M.S.ED
Dustin Horvath is a husband and father, an educator, and a person with ADHD. Dustin has worked in higher education for ten years in various roles, including being the Director of the Pathways program at St. Thomas Aquinas College for two years and as an adjunct professor teaching psychology courses. Nearly twenty years ago, Dustin entered STAC as a freshman, enrolling in that same academic support program. Dustin has completed his coursework with a B.S. in elementary general/special education, an M.S. in Literacy (birth - 6), and an M.S. in School Counseling (K-12). As a life-long learner, Dustin is always motivated to help others achieve their own success; he is passionate about providing others with support.

🎨🌱 Drawing Flowers and Other Living Plants w/ Keith Mueller

10:00 AM - 11:00 AM
Kent Public Library
Downstairs Program Room
*Please register once and you will be registered for all classes in this session.**

DRAWING FLOWERS & OTHER LIVING PLANTS

6-Week Art Class
Instructor: Keith Mueller

This series of 6 classes will focus on capturing the range of forms and textures of flowers and other living plants – from roots to stem, leaves, petals, and pistils. Emphasis will be on working from actual living subjects. After several classes in the library, as the weather allows, we will move outside to work directly from nature.

Students will learn both basic and refined techniques using graphite pencils to lay a foundation for more complex media: ink, pastel, watercolor, acrylic, and oil.

Individual attention will be given to beginning, intermediate, and advanced artists.

Basic drawing tools (paper, pencils, and erasers) will be provided, but students are encouraged to bring their own sketchbooks (9x12 or 12x16), pencils, and erasers.

Students will also need to bring a living flower or other plant to each class, as well as provide their own portable chairs for working outside; their own easels are optional.

Registration is required. For adults and seniors.
